“There is no description, no image in any book that is capable of replacing the sight of real trees,
and all the life to be found around them, in a real forest.
Something emanates from those trees which speaks to the soul,
something no book, no museum is capable of giving,”

Roots of the Future Montessori is a private Montessori School located in Clarence, NY. Roots of the Future Montessori School strives to maintain the history and philosophy of Dr. Maria Montessori. We are located on 7.5 acres of land providing a beautiful place for learning and experiencing nature. Our classroom environment cultivates the child's own natural desire to learn while encouraging a fascination for learning. Children develop their own will and readiness under the guidance of the teachers. Children acquiring basic skills in this natural way gain an early enthusiasm for learning as their inner personal dignity, independence and self-discipline develop.
Founder and Director
Dr. Anna Liuzzo taught in the public school sector for twelve years. She also teaches graduate courses in education at the University at Buffalo as an adjunct professor. Anna is New York State Certified in Education for ages Birth through 6th grade, received her PhD in Science Education through the University at Buffalo and was trained and certified through the Buffalo Montessori Teacher Education Program for ages 2.5 to 6. Anna has been awarded a number of grants to aid in her teaching of science in her classroom. She has held the position of Director, Chairperson and Elementary SAR for the Northwestern section of the Science Teachers Association of New York. Anna has also published chapters in "Great Ideas in Science Education" and "The Second International Handbook of Science Education" in addition to her dissertation "Why Won't They Listen: Negotiating the Technological and Social Context for Science Teaching".
Anna's passion for science and nature has inspired her to build a school with a nature based curriculum. Her belief in the Montessori philosophy is a perfect fit. Roots of the Future is based on the foundation that given the opportunity in the right environment, children will discover their own potential. Anna found her experience in the public school sector to be enlightening. She found that children possess multiple styles of learning and they learn best when they are able to make connections to their own experiences. Creating a child-centered environment to enhance the child's developmental stages and learning is what Roots of the Future Montessori offers. As Socrates stated, "education is the kindling of a flame, not the filling of a vessel". This has been the driving force in opening Roots of the Future where authentic learning will kindle the love of learning for life and we as teachers will nurture and respect each child's individuality.
Roots of the Future Montessori is structured to be the foundation for your child's education. Children are introduced to beautiful Montessori materials that will help them develop the foundations in language skills, math, science, geography, music and art. Experience and research both indicate that children attending Montessori schools tend to be academically competent, self-disciplined, socially well adjusted and happy.
Children in Montessori schools are often several years above grade level in their basic skills. The Montessori education is comprehensive, therefore, children are often exceptionally knowledgeable in a number of other areas as well. Montessori schools are well known for children's development of self-discipline. Montessori children choose to work diligently and with great concentration. They treat materials and others with respect. They display patience and resistance to temptation and the ability to attend to their work for long periods of time. At Roots of the Future Montessori our school day is limited to three hours in order to ensure the productive and uninterrupted work time necessary to provide the foundation for learning. We are a private school offering an educational setting that is structured to stimulate your child's natural curiosity for a life time of learning.
We are committed to fostering the spirit of your child while providing a safe and nurturing environment enabling them to reach their fullest potential, now and in the future.
Roots of the Future Montessori School does not teach religion, although we do present many universal spiritual themes such as love, kindness, joy, and confidence in the fundamental goodness of life. Many of the holidays we celebrate may be religious in origin. We approach them instead from a cultural perspective, sharing food, music, dance and traditions related to the day. This helps us build a sense of community by celebrating our similarities as well as our differences.
